Boeing Flight Test Instrumentation received a requirement to measure the distance interface between a linkage and a stop pad internal to the landing gear. The harsh environment, speed and forces at which these parts come together was the unique challenge presented. Eddy current distance sensors were the technology chosen to measure the distance between the link and pad. The sensor application presented were installed on two test articles and validated with high correlation using traditional angular sensors. The sensors continue to work throughout the test program and will now be considered as a distance or angle measurement solution going forward.Type
