dc.description.abstractThis research thoroughly examines the subjective standards used to assess the quality of neighborhoods, including perceptions of beauty and overall standing. Central to this study is the evaluation of how the Broken Windows Theory supports or contradicts the evaluation of neighborhoods affected by sociocultural, economic, and environmental challenges. The systematic literature review, site analysis, and perception analysis via focus groups aim to identify sustainable solutions that may be mislabeled based on appearance rather than their genuine environmental purpose. Results account for scenarios that apply to Peru and the US, and the conclusion involves a series of informed recommendations that merge the benefits of the BWT and a sustainable-oriented approach to neighborhood adaptation.en_US
