APPLYING BOWING TECHNIQUES FROM SPOHR’S VIOLINSCHULE TO HIS VIOLIN CONCERTO NO. 2. This project explores the value of Spohr's Violin Concerto No. 2 as a medium for teaching the bowing techniques outlined in his Violinschule. It provides a detailed analysis of the concerto's instructional tools and examines how these can enhance both technical and musical proficiency in students. By comparing Spohr's pedagogical methods with those of the French violin school, students can explore the similarities between the two systems and identify the unique elements that Spohr introduces. Additionally, this comparison allows students to evaluate which aspects of each method are most effective and which may be less applicable, thereby enhancing their understanding and ability to incorporate the best practices from both traditions. The execution of bowing techniques as interpreted by Spohr in his Violin Concerto No. 2 serves as a model for students to practice, demonstrating how these techniques are applied in the context of performance. This can be compared with similar techniques in other violin concertos from the same period, providing a broader understanding of the shared bowing practices. The research underscores the value of combining Spohr's Violin Concerto No. 2 with his Violinschule, suggesting that this integration can help students and teachers build strong technical foundations while also fostering better musical decision-making and interpretive skills. Western and Eastern Musical and Cultural Elements in Zhao Jiping’s Violin Concerto No. 1. This project explores the musical aesthetics of Zhao Jiping’s Violin Concerto No. 1, examining how the concerto incorporates elements of Eastern and Western cultures. It includes elements from Chinese music, including Beijing opera techniques, traditional phrase structure, Chinese instruments and Chinese traditional scales. In addition, it also features Western musical elements, such as the application of fugue, structure, and the application of western instruments. Each section of the concerto’s sonata form structure highlights different elements. The exposition shows the incorporation of guo men and qi cheng zhuan he. In the development section, Zhao juxtaposes the fugue and jin la man chang. The recapitulation unifies Chinese opera percussion with Western instruments, reflecting the Chinese Taoist philosophy and Zhao’s music aesthetics. Zhao achieves a unique balance between Western musical elements and those rooted in Chinese traditional music. Understanding these influences will help audiences and violinists to better appreciate and perform this piece.Type
