The prevalence of obesity in the United States is accelerating at an alarming rate. This literature review examines the adolescent population and its contribution to rising obesity rates along with possible treatment options to curb this epidemic. While this is a multifaceted issue, there are several takeaways from this review. First, adolescent weight status is an excellent predictor for adult weight status. This predictor highlights the necessity for future research in this population. There are several treatment options, including lifestyle modification and pharmacological intervention. However, there is varying success amongst all modes. To find a more effective method of combating obesity, a closer look at the adolescent population and a combination of treatment options should be the emphasis of future studies.Type
