The old story about the TV pitchman who claims to be selling his wares for the lowest possible price and is "losing money on every sale; but making up for his losses in volume" comes to my mind as the 1993 cotton year comes into this critical part of the growing season. The near-term economic prospects are in a holding pattern as prices continue low and conditions are hot and dry. Growers are surely facing one of the most difficult times in recent years and without the federal government's Cotton Program they would be facing even rougher times.Type
