IMPORTANCE OF UTILIZING COMMERCIAL FORMATS

Abstract

Today’s 5th and 6th generation aircraft require ever more complexity and higher data rates. New initiatives, such as the DoD’s Digital Modernization Strategy, require an updated approach to meet the needs of tomorrow’s war fighters. The Air Force’s new ‘Agile Combat Employment’ concept will require cooperation among greater numbers of smaller groups. We must increasingly look to the commercial sector for secure data transfer, handling, and storage standards. PcapNG, Network Attached Storage (NAS), Digital Modeling, and Cloud Based Connectivity are just a few in a long list of commercial tools that can be utilized to shorten development cycles and lessen the burden of collaboration among large, diverse groups. This paper will explore the benefits of using such methods.
